thanks merriam vol. II

so naps right?
errbody loves naps. if you don't than you're unamerican. i mean quick little getaway from it all? some quick sleep, or queep matt might say. naps are good. at anytime of day. thankfully this hasn't happened to me recently, or this semester at all in fact, since i've been so frickin' busy, but my naps usually get interrupted.
last semester i had a lot of free time after class. i would often get home, microwave some roast beef and mashed potatoes for 90 seconds, grab a raspberry iced tea, turn on spongebob, and sprawl on the futon. perfect recipe for a mid afternoon nap. only once the perfect concoction of nappy goodness had started, i would be awaken to a buzz of my phone vibrating my nap into oblivion. yes someone texted me.
i seem to always get text messages while i'm napping. it's like everyone who wants to get a hold of me know i'm trying to relax and get some shut eye, but since they can't do the same, they text me. i'm not blaming anybody, but i mean, you guys do text me when i'm napping. there isn't really anything i can do, but have to deal with my loss of naps. but then i got an idea. and i don't know who to go to with this, but i might email verizon or somebody. this is gold. you heard it here first...
so remember waaay back on wednesday, when we were all in elementary school slash middle school? and some people had cell phones but mostly no one did? and after school to talk to your friends everyone would log on to their computers and sign onto aol instant messenger? aim for short? remember those days? yea, those were the days? whoops i didn't mean to put a question mark.
you could talk to your friends and chat rooms and send smileys, but i don't need to get into the wonders of aim right now. hey remember buddy icons?
one thing that was cool with aim, was that if someone tried to talk with you, you could have an away message. default was "i'm away from my computer right now," but you could make your own. i think mine was like "i'm going to the bathroom brb." or like "hey i'm not here but keep your pants on!" ya i got creative with them. people would get that sent back to them if you weren't able to respond. do you see where i'm going with this?
cell phone away messages. not just for naps, but while in class. someone says hey whatsup. your phone responds with. class, can't talk test, and you catch my drift. but also it can say: napping. i think that this is a genius idea for cell phones. no one has to respond because your phone did it for you! i don't really know phone programming but i'm sure this couldn't be too hard. and i really hope no one thought of this idea before cuz that would piss me the hell off

  2. Drew,
Such an interesting idea. I decided to google it. I couldn't believe that no one else has thought of it. I found the website below. I have no idea about the credibility of it but I did see this.....be prepared drew...your day might be ruined...

"[An away message] is already available via "Presence". It's mostly available in Europe on nokia phones."
